Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a kettle. Remove from heat and let sit for 60 seconds to allow the temperature to drop slightly below boiling (~195°F / 90°C).
Pour the hot water over the herbs. Cover the vessel immediately with a lid or saucer to lock in steam and aromatic essential oils. Steep for 10 to 12 minutes (or 7 minutes for a milder flavor profile).
Remove the infuser or strain out the leaves. Stir in 1 teaspoon of raw honey and finish with a fresh lemon slice. Enjoy warm.
⚠️ Important Safety & Contraindications
While yarrow tea is generally safe when consumed occasionally as a beverage, certain biological factors require caution:
-
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Yarrow contains compounds that can act as uterine stimulants. It should be avoided entirely during pregnancy and while nursing.
-
Asteraceae Family Allergies: Yarrow belongs to the Asteraceae (daisy/ragweed) family. Individuals with known allergies to ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds, or daisies may experience allergic reactions.
-
Surgical & Blood Interactions: Yarrow has mild natural anticoagulant properties. Discontinue use at least 2 weeks before scheduled surgical procedures, and consult a healthcare provider if you take blood-thinning medications.
