Follow these simple step-by-step instructions to create a smooth, rich custard pie with a buttery graham cracker crust and a light homemade whipped cream topping.
Step 1: Prepare the Graham Cracker Crust
In a medium mixing bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, and granulated sugar. Stir until the crumbs are evenly coated and resemble wet sand.
Transfer the mixture to a 9-inch pie dish, pressing it firmly across the bottom and up the sides to form an even crust.

Place the crust in the refrigerator while you prepare the custard filling.
Step 2: Make the Custard Base
In a medium saucepan, whisk together the granulated sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
Gradually pour in the cold whole milk while whisking continuously until the mixture becomes completely smooth and free of lumps.
Add the egg yolks and whisk until fully incorporated.
Step 3: Cook the Walnut Custard
Place the saucepan over medium heat.
Cook the mixture while whisking constantly to prevent sticking or lumps from forming. Continue stirring until the custard thickens and begins to bubble gently, about 6 to 8 minutes.
Once thickened, immediately remove the pan from the heat.
Step 4: Add the Flavorings
Stir in the butter until completely melted.
Add the vanilla extract and finely chopped walnuts, mixing until the filling is smooth, creamy, and evenly combined.
The walnuts add a delicate crunch and rich nutty flavor that perfectly complements the silky custard.
Step 5: Assemble the Pie
Pour the warm walnut custard into the chilled graham cracker crust.
Use an offset spatula or the back of a spoon to smooth the surface.
Allow the pie to cool at room temperature for about 20 minutes, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until the filling is completely set.
For the best texture, chilling overnight is highly recommended.
