What Was Inside Box 1?

My heart pounded as I carefully lifted the lid.

Inside wasn’t anything dangerous.

It was something far more unexpected.

A handwritten letter.

Folded neatly on top of a small velvet pouch.

I opened the note first.

The handwriting was elegant and deliberate:

“To the family of the boy with the blue umbrella,

Yesterday, your son helped someone at a moment when she felt completely alone. Not because he expected anything in return, but because kindness came naturally to him.

The umbrella he gave away wasn’t just protection from the rain. It was a reminder that there are still good people in the world.

Please open the remaining boxes. Each one tells part of a story.”

I looked at Eli.

He looked at me.

Neither of us understood what was happening.

Then I opened the velvet pouch.

Inside was a small silver key.

Nothing else.

No explanation.

No name.

Just a key.
